What We Do

At Evexia Study Skills and Wellbeing, we place strong emphasis on life’s core skills. Our approach integrates these essential tools into every aspect of study, ensuring your student not only succeeds academically but also develops the foundations for a fulfilling life beyond education.

Below are our core principles, the key areas we explore in depth with each student. We don’t just talk about these tools; we actively demonstrate their power, showing students how they work and why they’re essential for lifelong success.

Memory

There is a big difference to short-term memory and long-term memory I show students the three keys to long term memory  repetition, imagination and association.

Growth Mindset

Through learning about neuro-plasticity, students gain confidence is their brain’s amazing ability to re-wire itself to learn new skills – practice is the key to rewiring your brain to gain skills in anything.

The Brain

There are steps to learning – students need to know what these steps are and how to perform them properly – this must be applied both in school and at home when studying.

Study

I show students, through findings in cognitive science, what the brain “likes” when it comes to encouraging it to engage with, process and retain information. For example: using colour and imagery to make notes more visually and cognitively attractive. And, summarising large bodies of information to make it more manageable.

Phone Management

I teach students (through practical exercises) how detrimental constant phone use is when it comes to learning – if they are jumping from the phone to the text book, they are multitasking and multitasking is a myth! This is easily proven with a few simple exercises I get the student to do. Healthy phone use is the key to successful academic outcomes.

Organisational Skills

Without the skill of being organised (time-management, tidy environment, proper equipment, proper sleep, good diet, exercise, phone management, social life) all of the study skills and knowledge of brain science will not be put to good use; it’s essential that students are disciplined in all the above areas in their life.

Stress Managment

Chronic stress shuts down the “thinking” part of the brain and so stress management is essential to balanced and healthy student’s lifestyle. The best way to avoid chronic stress is keeping things in perspective, being ahead of the game and also the use of stress management tools. ⌄⌄⌄

Meditation
& Exercise

Meditation and exercise are excellent tools to have in your arsenal! Avoiding over-emphasis on “winning” at exams and being realistic about the bigger picture goes a long way to aid stress management. Also, introducing an element of “fun” into study de emphasises the “serious” element: this is where the note-making skills and memory techniques come in!
